Now that everyone is an expert at cuffing their jeans with their booties and pairing the correct necklace with the correct neckline (and, you are all looking fabulous by the way!), I will continue with the most common questions I get as a Personal Stylist..."I think it would be fun to mix patterns, but I am not sure how to do it. I don't want to look silly!" This is a good one. Mixing patterned clothing is one of the best ways to upgrade your normal look, and have a little fun with your wardrobe. It doesn't have to be intimidating, and in fact can be easy to pull off. Here are a few of my tips and ideas to effortlessly mix and match patterns and look like the expert fashionista! Want to start simple? Just add a contrasting pattern accessory. This is usually done with a scarf, handbag or shoes. Stripes!! This is one of my favorite patterns and it will continue to be so on-trend moving into spring/summer 2018. It is such an easy pattern to wear and it's also a pattern that most people already have in their closet. I consider stripes a neutral and mix it with all other prints...plaids, dots, florals, paisleys, and animal prints. Same Color Family. Another way to mix patterns is to mix patterns that share the same color scheme or mix a pattern that shares at least one color with the other pattern. For example, in the picture below, the blouse and skirt both share the color peach. Vary The Scale of The Patterns...a more advanced, bold way of mixing patterns. Large florals with small florals, large argyles with small checks, large checks with small checks...you get the idea. If you feel like your pattern choices may be a little busy, ground them with solids...add a solid jacket, vest, belt, scarf or tights. Are you ready to kick your outfits up a notch? Either in a subtle way or a more bold way?
